Earlier in August I went to Sedona, AZ for a relaxing getaway with my love. Before going there, I wondered how the food would be because I've never heard much about the food in Arizona. I only assumed their Mexican food was awesome since they're closer to the border than Nevada. We perused through restaurant reviews online and asked some locals where they liked to eat. We went to restaurants/cafes based on those suggestions, and out of all the places we ate at, there were three places I really enjoyed:
1) Cucina Rustica is a lovely Italian restaurant thats great for a romantic date. The decorations and atmosphere really did give off a rustic feel. For dinner, I decided to get one of the today's special dishes. It was the seafood special with mainly clams and shellfish, pasta, and this incredible sauce! The sauce tasted like it had white wine and a lot of garlic:

2) Elote Cafe took me by surprise, just everything about this place impressed me. When we arrived it was crowded, but at least the waitress suggested to everyone waiting to hang out by the mini bar and have a drink. My fiance and I did just that, ordered drinks while we waited, and we were also given complimentary popcorn! We waited about 15 minutes, were seated at the bigger bar, and this is what we got:
My drink accompanied me while waiting to be seated. |
Green Corn Tamales- Two handmade fresh corn and roasted chile tamales with salsa verde and crema. |
Seabass Veracruzana- Grilled Mexican seabass w/ tomato- olvie-white-wine sauce. Comes w/ rice and refried black beans. |
Seafood Tacos- Ancho glazed seabass, scallops and rock shrimp, spicy cabbage, lime aioli and avocado. |
Pastel de Elote- Veracruz style sweet corn cake served with homemade dulce de leche, homemade raspberry jam and sweet corn ice cream. |
I absolutely loved all these dishes! It felt like lots of time and creativity were put into making these recipes.
I hope this place will still be here the next time I visit Sedona.
3) Desert Flour Bakery and Bistro was a nice little bakery conveniently located near our hotel. We came towards closing time so there was not too many desserts displayed by the time we got there. We saw some interesting desserts like this mini key lime pie. The tartness that accompanied it was pleasant to the palate:
Another nice thing about this bakery and bistro was that it had free wi-fi! I could not get 4G on my smart phone the whole time I was in Sedona. So it was great to have some fast internet while there!
